For WordPress.com Users: Connect with (N.A.H.) through “Likes”

I just have a quick Tech related announcement. Over the course of my development of Notes from an Aspiring Humanitarian, I’ve tried to look for ways to make my notes easily accessible and shareable across social networks. Screen Shot 2013-03-06 at 10.16.22 PM A new version of Jetpack was just released, enabling people like me who have self-hosted websites using the WordPress.org platform to be better connected to WordPress.com users by using the “like” mechanism. Now, whether you’re using WordPress.com or WordPress.org, if you find that you appreciate one of my posts, you can hit the “like” button below my related posts at the end of each note, just before the comment section. Screen Shot 2013-03-06 at 10.16.30 PM This development is important because if you’re a WordPress.com or WordPress.org user who likes one of my notes using the new “like” mechanism, I’ll know about it. Your gravitar will appear next to the button, allowing me the opportunity to visit your gravitar profile (as an example, here’s mine by the way) and potentially be able to find your own website or blog, and learn more about your writing as well.

After switching from WordPress.com to WordPress.org in September of last year, I initially missed the sense of community with other writers that I developed at wp.com. This new Jetpack update seems to be a step in the right direction towards bridging the gaps that exist between these two writing communities. I’m looking forward to learning about other writers through this new feature.

I'm a Social Justice Educator and Aspiring Humanitarian who is interested in conflict resolution, improving intergroup relations, and building more equitable and inclusive communities. "Notes from an Aspiring Humanitarian" is my blog, where I write about issues of diversity, inclusion, equity, and social justice. By exploring social identities through written word, film & video, and other forms of media, I hope to continue to expand and enrich conversations about social issues that face our society, and to find ways to take social action while encouraging others to do so as well in their own ways.

  1. Although my site is currently in shambles from the upgrade to the theme I purchased, I can relate to the changes experienced in going from WP.com to .org. I just wanted to tell you that you run a great blog and that I hope folks get to see your perspective on things you blog about :) Thank you, friend.

    • Hey! I have to tell you that those words mean a great deal coming from you. Stay the course friend! I just checked out your website just now, and I definitely wouldn’t describe it as being in shambles. I’d describe it as being next level! Very impressive work. I can’t wait to see the finished product!
